Victoria Falls

The world-famous Victoria Falls, named by David Livingstone after Queen Victoria, is one of the most phenomenal natural attractions and popular destinations in Southern Africa. Its indigenous Tonga name, Mosi-ua-Tunya, means The Smoke That Thunders, which is an apt description for the incredible mass of falling water between the countries of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Considered the largest waterfall in the world for its combined width (1.7km) and height (108m), Victoria Falls is one of the 7 Natural Wonders, and a World Heritage Site.

The Zambezi River serves as the country border, flowing in a gorge between Zambia and Zimbabwe, and offers some exciting and adrenalin-pumping water-orientated activities. From white-water rafting, to bungee jumping, tiger fishing, and ziplining; Victoria Falls has gained the nickname of Africa’s Adventure Capital. The sight and sound of the Falls are remarkable, and quite unbelievable until witnessed with one’s own eyes. There is a lot of colonial history, natural beauty, African pride, and wildlife heritage in the area – a definite item on any Southern African travel itinerary.
